About us – Who is “Rosa Gallica” Vacation Rentals?

Who is Rosa Gallica? No, “Rosa Gallica” is not a lady… It is the name of our vacation rental company.

First of all, Rosa Gallica is the Latin name for the “Rose of Provins”.

Rosa Gallica (or Rose de Provins) is the oldest rose known in France. It would have been brought back from the Holy Land upon returning from the Crusades by Thibault de Champagne.

In 2001, together with my wife Martine and myself Jean-Paul, we founded the “Clos de la Rose”, a bed-and-breakfast in Ile de France region, not far from Provins and Paris. Our small family business took the name Rosa Gallica, a nod to the Provins rose and the large garden with more than a hundred rose bushes that we had created there. We are passionate people who have evolved in the world of airlines and tourism throughout our careers, serving nearby destinations like Scotland or further afield like the Seychelles. In 2006, we renovated our first house in the ramparts of Riquewihr and created the Gîte du Colombier***** (the Dove’s Nest) .

Others holiday homes followed: we carried out several renovation and development projects of old Alsatian houses to turn them into exceptional holiday apartments. It was hard work but we are proud of the result. See below the example of our Lucky Dragon project…

We want your stay in one of our holiday homes to be a highlight of your trip.

There are travelers who are primarily looking for a place to sleep, regardless of the roof over their head or the scenery around them. In the past, people were looking for a vacation rental to have cheap accommodation for several people, much cheaper than a hotel. The visitors we welcome to our homes are not in this approach. Many of our guests travel the world and cross oceans to visit France and some have become friends over the course of their stay. They want to savor every moment of their stay.

We had the chance and the privilege of restoring houses steeped in so much history and set in an environment of such beauty. Riquewihr, a listed medieval site, is among the most beautiful villages in France and Europe. We could not resolve to make our vacation rentals only places to sleep. We wanted that, at the end of a day full of visits and discoveries, you would enjoy spending a moment of comfortable relaxation in an apartment that is your home for the duration of your stay. We wanted to honor a remarkable site at the same time as all aesthetes and epicureans, lovers of good and beautiful things, who will savor the place and the moment…

We have brought together the holiday apartments that we have created in Riquewihr under the name “Remparts de Riquewihr®” because they are all located within one of the two medieval ramparts of the city.

And then came the Mountain Hiker in La Vancelle, on the slopes of the Vosges mountains…

Since 2009 we have settled permanently in this beautiful region of Alsace which is also that of some of our ancestors.

When we left the Paris region to settle permanently in Alsace, we looked for a house in nature with a beautiful view. And we found this pretty architect-designed house built in 1929 by the former forest ranger of the La Vancelle national forest. This man close to nature had taken the time to study the movement of the sun and shadows on the side of the mountain, in the large clearing of La Vancelle. This charming village of 400 inhabitants is on the sunny side of the mountain and faces south-east. The horizon is crowned by the silhouette of the famous Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. Here again, major work was necessary to renovate the building and bring modern comfort. But the site is extraordinary for the quality of its environment. In this house located on a large orchard, we were able to fit out two comfortable apartments. A private apartment for ourselves and the Mountain Hiker holiday home for travelers who wish to rest in a quiet and exceptional site .

In the garden, we have created a small private terrace for our guests, with a gazebo where you can eat in the summer. The Mountain Hiker holiday home is easily accessible from the Alsace wine route in a few minutes by car. It is a particularly pleasant place to stay from April to November and a good base to explore all of Alsace as well as nearby Germany.

And now, we also offer you a stay in the light of the Côte d’Azur!

Regularly, our visitors who appreciated our Alsatian apartments asked us: “Do you have other apartments elsewhere, in another region? “.

We have traveled many areas in search of another hidden gem. Finally, we were seduced by the Mediterranean coast and its special light. Right next to the medieval castle of La Napoule, by the sea, a few kilometers from Cannes, we found a little gem.

Here is our holiday apartment on the Côte d’Azur also called French Riviera.
